Talk about out of the frying pan and into the fire… after an exhausting and rewarding 31 days of composing 31 Chorales I’ve begun composing a Miniature Jazz Mass for St. Peter’s Church, premiering on December 5th 2010. I say Miniature because, due to the short timeline, I’m forced to create a boiled-down version (to put it in perspective, some of the greatest composers in history spent years creating theirs.) Later on in my life I’d like to create a full-scale version, when I have the time and opportunity to fully actualize it.
My good friend Tim Archer recently took the plunge into setting up his own website. He’s an amazing guy who also plays bass/piano/trumpet, composes, produces and arranges music. He’s also totally hilarious and great to be around.
Tim recently arranged a few pieces of mine, including converting a currently unreleased single “Trickle” for classical guitarist Rupert Boyd into a dance/club remix. Wild stuff! You can check it out below and learn more about him:

I had every intention of composing Chorale #8 today, but my friends had very different plans for me… so it light of “extensive” birthday celebrations I’ll be continuing the project tomorrow. And now, back to my Birthday…
Back in NYC after nine gorgeous weeks with the Alpine Theatre Project in beautiful Whitefish, Montana. I’m mostly hanging out and composing several new works for guitar and soprano saxophone, among other projects.
I’m currently recording “Trickle”, my first piece for classical guitar, featuring Australian Rupert Boyd. Should be released on iTunes this October, stay ituned.
Good times were had last night at the Tea Lounge. Thanks for all who attended!
Storytime will join forces with Petr Cancura‘s Down Home for a benefit concert for Rational Animal on March 12th at the South Oxford Space. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door.
Susan Frances has listed my debut CD “Storytime – The Tortoise” as one of her favorite CDs of 2009 at JazzTimes. Thank you Susan, for showing your support and also for your extensive interview and CD review in 2008.
I was also honored to be listed as Top-of-2008 by three other reviewers last year.
I am honored to be among the recipients of a 2009 ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award. If you’re interested in applying for this award and under the age of 30, you can download the PDF application.
